Bao Khang Missing Child Surrey, British Columbia – Relief and joy have swept through the Surrey community following the safe recovery of Bao Khang Tran, a 6-year-old non-verbal autistic child who was reported missing on the evening of April 12, 2025. After a coordinated and urgent search effort that included police, rescue teams, and volunteers, Khang was found alive and safe.
Khang had last been seen between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. near Northview Park in the Fraser Heights area, close to the intersection of 156 Street and 112A Avenue. When his family realized he was missing, they quickly alerted the Surrey Police Service (SPS), sparking an immediate and large-scale search operation. Due to Khang’s condition and the fact that he is non-verbal, the situation was considered extremely time-sensitive.
Search teams, including the Surrey RCMP’s Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU), the South Fraser Search and Rescue Society, and air support units, were deployed. Community members also joined in, searching nearby parks, side streets, backyards, and water sources, as Khang is known to be drawn to water. The search was especially urgent as overnight temperatures dropped to around 5°C with windy conditions, increasing concerns for Khang’s well-being. Volunteers were asked to bring flashlights, search dogs, and assist with covering hard-to-reach areas.
Fortunately, after hours of intense searching, Khang was found safe. Authorities have not disclosed the exact location where he was located but confirmed that he was alive and reunited with his family. The outcome brings a heartwarming end to a tense and emotional situation, highlighting the power of quick community action and coordinated response. The efforts of law enforcement, search teams, and countless volunteers were instrumental in ensuring Khang’s safe return. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and the value of support networks when emergencies occur.
